Brewers, KC Sare and Scott Johnson are both foothill natives who wish to use their backgrounds and passion to craft quality lagers, ales, innovative beers, and wine for the enjoyment of our community, friends, family, and beyond.


KC Sare has had a passion for beer and the brewing process for over 20 years. His curiosity for the science behind brewing began while managing casks in one of England’s premier real ale breweries, Young & Co’s. Brewery; now known as Wells & Young’s Brewing Company.  KC holds a 4-year degree in Brewing and Distilling Science from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh Scotland and has brewed for esteemed breweries including Anheuser-Busch (at their once London based Stag Brewery)Gordon Biersch Brewing Company in San Jose and most recently Deschutes Brewery in Bend, Oregon.  KC is an award-winning brewer who has been integrally involved in recipe development for award winning breweries in California’s Sierra Foothills.  He is passionate about Continental European styles and is dedicated to their brewing traditions.  


Award-winning winemaker, Scott Johnson has a 4-year degree in Viticulture and Enology from the University of California, Davis. With over 10 years of winemaking experience in Sonoma County, Napa, New Zealand, and our own Sierra Foothills, Scott’s winemaking style imparts innovative contemporary techniques that highlight our region’s unique terrain. Scott is currently the winemaker for Perry Creek Winery, Gold Mountain Winery, and Element 79 Vineyards, all of which are located in Fair Play, CA. However, Scott is not just a winemaker. He also studied under well-regarded brewing professor and brewing scientist, Charlie Bamforth. At Solid Ground, Scott is breaking new ground by pushing the boundaries of beer using winemaking techniques, including barrel aging projects, and blending wine into beer to create harmonious hybrids.
